One, worse than average, practically the worst, if not worse than the worst.
At one? Begone, you’re done.
Two, not the worst but close to the line. You can maybe get by, at the help of the divine.
At two? You’ve got a LOT to improve.
Three, we’re getting better, but still within the margin of error.
At three? You’re barely home free.
Four, the start of average, mediocre, the coke of beverage.
At four? You might still be shown the door.
Five, right in the middle, not early not late. Not bad, not great.
At five? Least I can say is you’re alive.
Six, maybe there’s a bit of a hope, a bit of charm. I suppose really, there is no harm.
At six? Only a few things to fix.
Seven, now we’re getting somewhere. Approaching you is worth a dare.
At seven? There isn’t even a question.
Eight, we’re smiling with lady luck. Now we’re getting some bang for our buck.
At eight? You’re doing great!
Nine, what a powerful force. No question to anyone who searches the source.
At nine? People will worship your shrine.
Ten, the peak and pinnacle. The top and untouchable.
At ten? People will feel they’re in heaven, ascend.
Now you may read and think this is all about looks,
but which words have I used from any such books?
There is nothing here to describe the way you were born,
nothing to say of the way you’re adorned.
Did you see yourself as a ten, five or one?
Or any number that may make you feel shunned?
What can numbers do?
When there’s so much you’ve been through.
They say ‘numbers don’t lie’,
but here’s the thing I see with my eye.
Numbers don’t tell…
about your dreams, thoughts and the things that befell.
They never once say…
about your quirks, your laugh, or your favourite season’s day.
Numbers can be wonderful, as they are used a lot.
Though used in this way? Perish the thought.
We can all try our best,
To try and help others. And I say this without an ounce of jest.
So we try, if and when…
To bring each other up, to that fictional ten.
Though, there are those who will snort…
Laugh, point and retort.
To them, with those words they’ve spun…
Enjoy your deserved place... as at least somewhere, you’re number one.
