Dark Day On The Marshes

Windy mists rise frae the hills,
Brave are those men in kilts,
As the coats in red approach nearer in their ranks,
Yon Bonnie Prince says the lord gives him thanks,
They draw their swords and prepare their lives,
As the battle on the marsh collides

The ground goes deep wi red,
As the great highland charges,
Bodies lay down dead,
Atop a sea of trodden marshes,
Clan against clan, this day won't be forgotten,
As brother kills brother on the field of Culloden

Screams of thunder, the cry of war,
Many have fought in these battles afore,
The cannons are armed, the muskets are aimed,
Relentlessly attacking, their freedom to gain,
But one by one they fall, never surrendering,
They gave it their all, fearlessly fighting

The ground goes deep wi red,
As the great highland charges,
Bodies lay down dead,
Atop a sea of trodden marshes,
Clan against clan, this day won't be forgotten,
As brother kills brother on the field of Culloden

Back to the highlands, the battle is over,
The red coats will follow, while the kilts run for cover,
The bagpipes are banned, Gaelic is no more,
Freedom will be in their hearts forever more,
Standing proud, their spirits stay strong,
But the battle is over and the red coats have won

The ground goes deep wi red,
As the great highland charges,
Bodies lay down dead,
Atop a sea of trodden marshes,
Clan against clan, this day won't be forgotten,
As brother kills brother on the field of Culloden
